October 2024 Update

Hello from Renton Historical Society,

With fall well underway, RHS has taken steps to ensure that the facilities in our care are secured. The annex roof was given a second coat of Karnak sealant to prevent leaks, and a new latch and locked chain have been installed on the gate to prevent unauthorized entry. The annex, and the land it is on, were recently evaluated by engineer Eric Tuazon, who generously donated a formal assessment of the building’s condition and the regulations impacting repairs. This documentation provides a comprehensive understanding that will be invaluable as we maintain this unique property.

In an effort to expand our capacity for public engagement, RHS has prioritized the development of our brand materials and online presence. First and foremost, RHS was tasked with writing our own mission statement unique from the Renton History Museum. The mission statement reads as follows:

The Renton Historical Society preserves and illuminates our community’s history to inform an inclusive and connected future that captures the diversity of experiences upon which Renton’s foundation is built.

This mission statement is presented online via the website www.rentonhistory.org, which is now live and home to past updates. Over the next few months, RHS will work to develop this website and increase the resources and information available on it. We are in the process of back end development to allow for secure online donations in time for our end of year membership drive.

Creating new opportunities for members through our online presence is at the forefront of our design efforts. We plan to offer more frequent voting options so your voice can directly influence this transition process. We will publish financial statements and other documentation to improve transparency. A new online store will be made available, making it easier to take home a part of Renton history.

More details on our plan for the website, and on the RHS initiatives for 2025, will be made available later this year during our membership fundraiser.

Sincerely,

Christopher Howell
